One of the best ways to experience a place, along with meeting the people and exploring the area, is by eating the food. There are many places famous for their cuisine and France is one of them. Of course, Paris will be the hub of fine food but that definitely doesn’t mean you won’t be able to experience French food anywhere else in the country. Traveling, even if it’s not to taste some of the most delicious foods in the world, is a valuable experience but you’ll need a passport to do it. There are many unusual dishes attributed to the French and among these are Escargots, a fancy name for snails. This delicacy is cooked in a butter and wine sauce and served with their own special fork as they are traditionally served in their shells. Steak lovers might want to try steak tartare. This dish is prepared by marinating and seasoning finely chopped beef and serving it very rare. Cooked in alcohol completes the French touch and a glass of red wine completes the picture.
A famous signature French dish is Croque Monsieur or Croque Madame. This is a sandwich much like a grilled cheese but with a twist. Ham is placed in the middle of the cheese providing a surprise for those expecting the normal grilled cheese. The Madame version added an egg cooked sunny side up and seated on top of the bread.
If you are one who isn’t too adventurous when it comes to food, steak frites might be just the dish for you. While this is a well known French dish, it is actually just steak and, of course, French fries. Eating this, you will certainly feel right at home. It is certainly no surprise that you will find French onion soup but the daring diner might want to try moules and huitres also known as mussels and oysters. A famous French dish made with duck is Confit de Carard and for the lighter side, a crepe, falafel or gallette will certainly fit the bill.
After the dinner, desert is certainly not to be missed and be sure to consider the famous French cookie, the macaron. This is a light delicacy made of two small cookies with icing placed in the middle of them. The also come in many different colors and are not to be missed. Other popular selections are the traditional ice cream, chocolate and a variety of Danish.
I hope you can easily see that France is certainly the pace for food but this country will be out of reach for you if you don’t have a passport.
