3 Helpful Tips For Raising Veg For First Time Gardeners

Planting vegetables is relaxing and enjoyable and it is always satisfying to harvest the fruits of your own work.  It might appear simple enough – you dig a hole and sow a seed or dig a small trench and scatter the seeds – but there are a couple of things you’ll need to be aware of if you wish to experience an abundant initial harvest.

In advance of beginning, consider the potential yield of every plant you sow so you do not over produce veg that you will have no use for.

Sketch Your Design – When raising veggies it’s critical to remember that particular plants grow up and tall, such as corn, whilst other plants spread out, like cucumbers.  You need to allow a lot of space for your creeping plants to spread out and you do not want your taller plants causing a shadow over your garden.  Map your plot before cultivating your vegetables to ensure there is adequate space for everything to develop properly.

Try Something New – Your first inclination when cultivating veggies will most likely be to plant veggies that you are sure you like to eat. But, additionally, why not try cultivating something new and interesting, besides. For example, if you know you enjoy cherry tomatoes try planting some heirloom ones also.   Go ahead and plant carrots but maybe sow some garlic, too.  It is always fun to experiment with new things, especially if you grow them yourself.

 

You’ll find there’s plenty of work involved when you grow a vegetable garden so you have to be prepared to work. You have to prepare the land to begin with and then you will need to tend the plot each day – pulling out weeds, thinning out baby plants, making sure it has adequate water.  You’ll have activities to do nearly every day during the growing season so make certain you are prepared to keep it up.
