How Scientists Believe Artificial Trees Can Save the World

Artificial trees aren’t uncommon these days. The advantage of not requiring such maintenance and care as trimming, watering and nurturing means that they are the choice of many to brighten homes, conservatories, office and hospitals.

However, environmentally, artificial trees generally don’t do much more than look attractive and brighten a room. it is possible that this fact is about to change dramatically. A scientist in America has drafted an invention of some artificial trees which are intended to behave in the same way real trees and plant do. If this invention were to become reality, artificial trees could be taking in carbon in the same way that real trees do and contributing to the war on global warming.

The invention remains only an idea on paper at the moment and it doesn’t actually look anything close to a real tree, like artificial trees do. Dr lackner, who is the scientist responsible for the idea, claims it presently looks more like an American football goalpost with lines in the middle.

The new artificial trees could perform the work of their real counterparts by drawing in carbon dioxide from the air just as plants do during the photosynthesis process but with the difference that the artificial trees would store the carbon instead of giving out oxygen.

It is estimates that each of Dr Lackner’s artificial trees would be capable of removing 90,000 tonnes of carbon each year from our atmosphere. That is more or less the same amount as 15,000 cars will produce each year. On this basis, it is estimated that 250,000 artificial trees would be needed worldwide to counter the 25 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide we produce each year.

The invention might have interesting ramifications for the future or the artificial trees and plants business. Although it is still a long time off, let’s hope that we can combine this fantastic technology with aesthetically pleasing artificial trees to make a real difference to the future of our planet.
