Do slugs go after…?

I just planted a spiral topiary tree… and i saw a few slugs on it tonight.

I was wondering if they could harm it in anyway?

Slugs will eat what green vegetation they can, as well as take shelter in small shrubs and trees – so they may not have been eating your tree.

There are wildlife friendly slug pellets that you can get that will kill them, as well as barriers that deter them from crossing, which can be especially useful for potted plants, or where you can make a small barrier. There are purpose built barriers that will trap them too, and copper tape that gives a small electrical charge to their undersides, which stops them moving forward.

Diatomaceous earth can be bought from nurseries, is razor sharp to slugs and snails, and can be sprinkled around plants to stop them moving to plants too.

Overall, set some traps, get some wild-life friendly slug pellets, if you wish to kill them, and consider a small water feature, which would attract frogs in, who will eat them.

There are other natural predators to slugs, called nematodes – you buy a small pack, seems like dust inside, which is watered onto your garden, and the nematodes seek out the slugs, resulting in their death. I don’t use salt, as this isn’t so good for the garden. In the meantime, check for damage to your tree, as they may not be harming it to any great degree.
