Where can I buy purple hulled peas in Southern California?
Not the seeds, the actual peas. AND, are purple hulled peas and black-eyed peas the same thing?
There is a difference in the taste and texture. Black eye peas taste coarse and sort of crumbly. Fresh black eye peas have a green hull.
Purple hull peas are a little smoother in texture and have a creamy taste. Fresh purple hull peas have a variegated to dark purple hull when mature.
Have you tried the famed Farmer’s Markets? I’m sure if they have them a grower can point you in the right direction.
