How do you make a Large Pumpkin?
Also I have the seeds for a Atlantic Giant.
You’re off to a good start – you have the right seed to grow a GIANT!
You need plenty of room to grow a giant pumpkins. Create a large mound in your garden about 6 feet across. This mound should be at least 20 feet away from any other plant in your garden. Construct the mound of compost and soil. Make sure it is loose and airy.
Most giant pumpkin varieties, including the Atlantic Giant, take about 120 days to fully mature. Plant your seeds in the mounds a couple of weeks after the last expected frost in your area. This should give them plenty of time to mature before the first frost comes in the fall.
You’ll need to pollinate the plants yourself. Use a q-tip and take the pollen from the male flower and swab inside the female flower. This will help you be sure that the flowers have been pollinated with pollen from a giant pumpkin plant and not from a small variety that your neighbor may be growing down the street.
After the seedlings emerge, thin to 1-2 plants per mound. Give them plenty of water – 35-40 gallons per week. They could also do with a dose of fertilizer every few weeks.
Once the first pumpkins begin to set, prune all but the best looking pumpkin. By removing the other pumpkins, the vine will be able to focus all of its energy into growing a single giant pumpkin. Continue watering and fertilizing and hope for good weather.
You just might be able to grow a monster!
