Crafters~Question About Twig Wreaths?
Ok, I have been trying to bring out my crafty side. I want a new twig wreath for in our living room but they are so expensive already decorated. I got a large wreath for $9.99. I would like to decorate it with pip berries and the rusty stars. The stars I am pretty sure I can just hot glue them on. Do I do the same for the pip berries? What garland is best to buy for decorating a wreath. Thanks for your help.
I am assuming the berries are attached to stems… hope that’s correct. The easiest way to attach them would be if the stems are bendable wire, just stick them in the wreath and wrap the stem around a twig of the wreath. Have some small needle nose pliers on hand to help you pull the wire through small holes. Leave some space of wire between the berry and where you start wrapping, at least a quarter inch, so you can bend it back out and use the berry to hide the stem. Another way to attach them, as well as garland or a lot of other things, would be floral wire. It comes in pre-cut pieces or on a paddle. If you’ve never used it before, I would start with a smaller guage rather than the thicker wire because it’s easier to bend and you can always twist a couple of pieces together to get a thicker wire if you need it. You can find floral wire in the floral section of any craft store, including the craft section of Wal-Mart. It is green so blends in well to a lot of designs and you could use it to create a stem for the berries if they don’t already have one. As for garland, keep your options open! You could just use some wired ribbon and thread it throughout, with a bow on bottom or ribbons hanging down (floral wire or hot glue could also be used to attach ribbon). Artificial greens such as ivy woud work as well. My advice would be to wire as much as possible and use glue as little as possible. That way, if you ever get tired of the colors or the decorations, you can re-do it without having to buy a new wreath or store the old one, plus, sometimes hot glue will be harder to hide than wire – such as on ribbon – you can see the hot glue “spot” on the ribbon but wire blends in really well. If you use a lot of glue, it’s going to be a lot harder to fix something once you stand back and look at it. I’ve re-done my Christmas wreath like five times – it’s now one of my favorite things to do every holiday season. I’ve used wire to attach ornaments, ribbon, pinecones, and all kinds of stuff. I’ve never used glue on it, and it’s always held together well. Good luck and have fun!
