This feature was especially preferred by sailors who used the chests at sea. Also during this time period, funeral directors began using cedar and pine to build coffins. Doctors hailing from England were proponents of using cedar coffins to bury the dead because they believed it would halt the spread of disease. Over the years, cedar’s versatility has allowed it to be used for many reasons.
