Will airport X-rays have any effect on seed germination, particularly mango seeds?
I plan to take some mangoes overseas in the hope of being able to plant & grow the seeds there. However, I’m a bit worried about the airport X-rays destroying the seed’s ability to germinate.
In many places, they don’t want you to bring any plant seeds.
Germination would only be affected by very large dosages of radiation. It is similar to the two different applications of X-rays in medicine – a chest X ray will do very little damage, but a therapeutic irradiation of a tumour will have a much stronger effect.
