Several Good Reasons To Plan Your Back Yard Garden

Many different types of gardens can be built. Different people create different types of gardens including herb gardens, rose gardens or flower gardens. Most well kept gardens are pleasing to look at. Herbal gardens provide fresh spices for cooking and salads.

There are many different ways that you can put your garden together. Container gardens offer many options and possibilities for your garden. With container gardens you can often move the container around as needed to get more sunshine or more shade. Raised bed gardens make it easy to create gardens in set, confined areas. Weeding raised bed and container gardens are often easier because the plants are higher off the ground.

With so many options available it is easy to gloss over the details and just dive in and start your garden. It is easy to get started with your garden Simply clear a plot of ground down to the dirt. Add topsoil as needed, rake, plant plants or seeds and water.

Taking some time and creating a garden design is a much better approach. Creating a plan for your garden helps you lay out the actual dimensions and access points for your garden. Weeding and tending your plants is much easier if you have planned space for access to the plants on all sides.

Determining what plants you want to grow and their sunlight needs is critical. Planting tall plants in between the sun and shorter plants will not give you the results you are seeking.

Some plants grow well together and some do not. Those that do are called companion plants. Some plants like onions and strawberries are complementary, or companion plants. Potatoes and spinach are not companions and should not be planted near one another. Using a garden plan will help you determine the best placement for complementary companion plants and how to keep the poor companions apart.

Different varieties of seeds sprout in different amounts of time. Mammoth sunflower, Kentucky wonder garden beans, baby’s leaf hybrid spinach and evergreen long white bunching onions all sprout within 7 to 14 days. Deciding what to plant when you havest the early plants is part of a good plan.

Making a garden design helps you answer this and many other things that will come up in the course of each garden. Next years planning will be quicker when you use the garden design from the previous year to get started.  As soon as the threat of frost is gone you will be able to plant your garden.
