I need help identifying a plant in my yard. I think it may be a large vine or a small shrub. It is dark green

and has thornes which are 2-3 inches long. The leaves appear to be only on the new growth and are about the size of a silver dollar. They have a clover shape with three trefoils but also have small wings along the leaf stem. The plant is about six feet tall, but has been growing undisturbed for about 12 years. It is in a part of the yard that I had let go wild and which I am now clearing. When my mother was living, she cared for that area and I don’t know if the plant is something she set out or if it is one that came up on its own. I have never seen anything like it though, and I am very familiar with the plants in this area. I live in the Gulf Coast area of the USA. I don’t want to do anything to it until I find out what it is. I have looked on several plant identification sites and have been unable to find it. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

you are smart to be wanting to identify the plants before you rip them out, there are a lot of gardeners that put their life into their yards only to have them eradicated.
