Power lines, electrical wiring, and electrical appliances all produce electric and magnetic fields. EMFs are invisible lines of force that surround any electrical device. Electrical and magnetic fields have different properties and possibly different ways of causing biological effects.

The two types of man-made EMFs that everyone is exposed to on a daily basis are extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF) and radiofrequency radiation (RF).  Sources of ELFs are electrical appliances and power lines, while sources of RFs are from wireless devices such as cell phones, cordless phones, cellular antennas and towers, and broadcast transmission towers.
