If it were not for the law against marijuana, would paper be made from hemp instead of trees?
Back in the day it was legal to grow hemp. This is the cannabis plant, but not the variety that has been bred to have a higher THC content. Back then this easy to grow plant produced seeds and stems. The seeds were used for animal feed or squeezed to make vegetable oil, the stems were a by-product that was used for its fiber. Hemp fiber can be used for making rope or paper. So if you were inside a burning rope factory, you might get high, but you could’nt make a decent joint with this stuff.
If hemp was legal, then instead of chopping down our forests for wood pulp, the farmers could grow hemp and have another source of income.
They could put a tax on paper made from trees, then paper could be made from hemp. This would be better for the environment.
The descendants of the guys who made marijuana illegal should be punished. This includes the Hearst family. They could sue them for millions.
