HOT IDEAS FOR COOL WINTER FLOWERS

As the seasons change and chill sets in outside, why not raise the temperature with some warm and wonderful floral arrangements indoors?.  The change of seasons brings citrus, berries and a load of other vibrant reds and oranges into the picture, so what better time to combine all the hot colours to cheer up the winter gloom!

For those in the northern hemisphere, this could mean a stunning Christmas arrangement that will be a talking point at the best-dressed festive tables – whilst for those southern hemisphere dwellers, it’s a chance at mid-year Yuletide celebration.  Whatever the occasion, wherever you are – the following fab floral idea will get everyone’s temperature rising!

You’ll need to start by finding a container (preferably a rectangular-shaped one) that is big enough to make a statement but not so huge that it dwarfs the guests! .  Then get some oasis or floral foam and float it in a bowl of water.  Remember this tip from a leading online florist in Perth not to push the oasis down into the water, but rather let it absorb water on its own which will prevent air bubbles from forming in the foam.  It will then sink to the bottom of the bucket when it has fully absorbed all the water .  Then take the oasis and place in the container, after which you should take a piece of chicken wire and bend it over the top of the whole container.

The whole arrangement will be a low one, so cut the flower stems quite short.  Start with some berries at each end of the container and then put some of the green foliage alongside that.  Follow this with another type of berry in the middle of the container.  Push a sharp stick or skewer into the oranges and clump these together in groups of three, in differing heights.  Lastly, use the flowers to fill in the gaps.  Use your own creativity when placing the flowers, but one suggestion from the online florist in Perth is to have the gerberas in the centre and the roses towards the end, also grouped together in threes.

And to add your own signature style, you could add interesting pods or cones which have been spraypainted in festive colours.
